Out4Immigration, which took part in Change.org's Ideas for Change campaign earlier this year, has been rewarded with a blog spot through Change.org for its efforts to increase awareness about the need for equal immigration rights for America's same-sex binational couples.Amos Lim and Kathy Drasky from Out4Immigration will contribute to the blog, LGBT Immigration Rights, as will Martha McDevitt-Pugh of Love Exiles and Chris Waddling, the binational couple outreach director for Marriage Equality USA. The team will focus on continuing to increase awareness about the struggles gay and lesbian Americans with foreign partners face under current US immigration law that fails to recognize their relationships. Because of this, same-sex binational couples are denied the ability to sponsor a partner for a green card like opposite-sex binational couples can.
Out4Immigration, Love Exiles and Marriage Equality USA, along with Immigration Equality, EQCA, The Courage Campaign and hundreds of active bloggers and their followers have kept the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) in the news ever since its reintroduction in Congress by Rep. Jerrold Nadler and Sen. Patrick Leahy last month. This awareness reached a high point yesterday when the Washington Post ran an editorial calling for the passage of the UAFA, saying it is needed to "right a gross unfairness."
